Hydroseeding with Biotic Earth (ENGINEERED SOIL MEDIUMS) is the newest innovation for the hydroseeding industry. They are products specifically designed to aid in the building and developing a reasonable and effective plant growing medium and reduce the potential requirements of importing and spreading costly topsoil to augment stockpiled onsite topsoil for revegetation. This approach follows the design criteria of minimizing the impact on the environment by reducing the amount of earthwork and hauling required while reducing the risks of poor vegetation establishment.

 

Traditionally, revegetating starts by properly preparing the ground (Seed Bed). Using existing stockpiled onsite topsoil is best for revegetation. But during construction onsite topsoil has intermixed with substrates leaving leaving little to no salvageable topsoil available. Therefore, the option to import topsoil is deemed necessary because seeding will take place on poor to marginal soil/subsoils achieving uncertain vegetation establishment and sustainability results. Due to the potential for the introduction of weed seeds, pathogens, pesticides and even heavy metals.

• Biotic Earth hydroseeding on virtually any slope/grade < 3H:1V for areas as small as 2,489 sq./ft. (231 M2) and with the additional use of Turf Reinforcement Mats and/or Slope Interruption Devices slopes/grades of > 0.5H:1V can be hydroseeded.​
