GROUND PREPARATION

Not “PROPERLY PREPARING” the ground  prior to planting is one of the most common and major mistakes affecting the overall results, regardless of the method chosen (Hydroseeding, Dry Seeding, Sod). Most seeds and sod require a fine textured, loose soil surface before installation, so the small roots of can penetrate and take hold and keep the soil in place. The extent of the ground preparation required depends upon your soil test results, ground conditions, and the method chosen (Hydroseeding, Dry Seeding, Sod). You can have the finest product and best fertilizer, but poor ground (Seed Bed) preparation can lead to inadequate results.

“DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE TRUE VALUE OF GOOD AND PROPER GROUND PREPARATION”

We can provide two types of ground preparation for hydroseeding as follows:

  • OVERSEEDING APPLICATIONS: Requires a power raking to loosen (Scarify) the compacted soil and remove dead/decaying vegetation (Thatch). Cutting down all existing vegetation as short as possible, and removal of all rocks, and debris. This makes room for the new seed and allows the new seed embryo’s small roots to take hold and grow deep. In order for the seed to germinate it must be in direct contact with the loosened soil.

  • NEW APPLICATION: Requires a bare loose soil surface, removal of all vegetation, rocks, debris, and 2-4 inches of quality loosened soil. In order for the seed to germinate it must be in direct contact with the soil. Not having 2-4 inches of a bare loose quality soil surface can lead to washout and poor germination.

For sod installation preparation we provide a bare loose soil surface, removal of all vegetation, rocks, and debris and 1-4 inches of quality loosened soil, for the sod's small roots to take hold and grow deep.
